Purpose of the Program
  • To recognize elementary and middle school students who have demonstrated progress toward proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in one or more world languages in addition to English
  • To honor and affirm students’ home languages and cultures
  • To value diversity
  • To encourage a study of languages toward becoming multilingual
  • To certify progress toward biliteracy
  • To raise awareness of the State Seal of Biliteracy (SSB) and the criteria required for graduating high school with the SSB
  • To further align our English and Multilingual Learner Department with principles 1 and 4 of the EL Roadmap.


Program Details

  • Participation is voluntary
  • For grades TK-8
  • Can choose any* world language, including American Sign Language (ASL)
    • *If 8th grader taking for high school elective credit, there is a list of languages to choose from.
  • Students who meet the criteria of their selected pathway will receive a certificate and be included in our annual awards ceremony

3. There is one work sample per student, per language they are studying, due per semester. The work samples are then archived in Pathways in LP4 and LP 6. Directions for uploading can be found here.
